Wildlife Conservation Society
T4Bi developed a mobile data collection solution that enables WCS scientists performing wildlife surveys around the world.
Wildlife Conservation Society, New York, New York
Client Profile
The Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS), founded in 1895, works to save wildlife and wild places through science, global conservation, education and the management of the world’s largest system of urban wildlife parks, led by the flagship Bronx Zoo.
The Challenge
To build a mobile application to collect data by WCS scientists performing wildlife surveys around the world.
Solution Highlights
T4Bi developed Collect, an application which enabled WCS to (centrally) define, publish and manage field data collection forms, and have remote field workers check-out these forms for their use, collecting data when offline (off network), and then submit their data when they returned to their offices and had network access again. The collected data would be validated against rules on entry and then again on submission, with a custom service handling the mapping of the data against underlying tables.
Highlights of the solutions are:
- HTML5
- Offline data storage and online data synchronization
- Metadata driven forms and data collection
- NoSQL style data storage
Technologies Used
- .NET 3.5
- XML/SOAP Web Services
- HTML5
- Ext.js
